WHISKY IN THE JAR

As I was going over the Kilmagenny mountains
I met with captain Farrel and his money he was counting
I first prodused my pistol, and then I drew my sabre
Saying: “Stand and deliver, for I am a bold deceiver!”

Wish a ring a ra do rum di
Whack fol me daddio
Whack fol me daddio
There’s whisky in the jar

I counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny
I put it in my pocket and I sent it home to Jenny
She smiled and she swore that she never would deceive me
But the devil take the women for they never can be easy

I went into my chamber for to take a little slumber
I dreamed of gold and silver and sure it was no wonder
For Jenny drew my charges and filled them up with water
Then called for captain Farrel to be ready for the slaughter

It was early in the morning before I arose to travel
Along came a band of footmen and likewise captain Farrel
I first prodused my pistol, and then I drew my sabre
But you cannot shoot with water so a prisoner I was taken

If anyone can help me it’s my brother in the army
If I could find his station be it Cork or Killarny
I know he’d come and see me we’d go roving in Kilkenny

I bet he’d treat me better than my darling sporting Jenny
